Dish is one of London’s finest caterers with the ambition to provide the highest quality food and service within the events industry. Owned by The Eventist Group, the heart of the business sits firmly with its relationships with clients and approach of the Dish ‘family’ team.
We’re lucky to say Food by Dish has been plating up delicious dishes at our corporate events since 2010! And we’re thrilled to have just signed another 5 year contract with them.
With talks of expansion and the move to a new shiny office in Battersea, we sat down with them to chat about carbon offsetting, local produce and mocktails.
So, what’s happening in the world of Dish?
So much right now! We’re currently going through a brand refresh and are excited to be settling into our new HQ in the heart of Battersea, enjoying our new fully efficient production kitchens, as well as very close arrival of two brand new fully electric fridge vans! Our staff levels unfortunately depleted during Covid and we were recovering on a core team who really held the business together. Now. we’re in a great place – we have a full team and our new office space marks the start of a very prosperous new beginning. We’re looking forward to being back in the South of London, close to lots of our clients, and not too far from Troxy either!
As a company you seem dedicated to carbon neutrality, can you speak more into that?
Yes we are – we believe there are four key deciding factors for clients when choosing a caterer – style, price-point, food provenance, and sustainability and environmental impact. We’ve seen a tremendous surge in the amount of people who want to know where their food comes from and the journey it’s been on before getting onto their plate!
With that in mind, we’re dedicated to reducing our impact on the environment and the amount of waste we produce as a company. For example, we work with Olleco, a brand that redistributes cooking oil to create high quality biofuel for transport. We also work with London based charity City Harvest who give surplus food to local food banks around the city, and, we’re a partner of One feeds two, a charity which funds a child’s school meal for every dish we produce. We also offset a lot of our carbon emissions by planting trees.
As an industry, we have the power to make a positive impact on the environment and communities we serve. By implementing sustainable practices in our events, we can reduce waste, conserve resources, and promote a more mindful way of living. We think it’s more important now than ever for caterers to take action and do what they can to minimise any impact on the environment.
Where do you source your ingredients?
At the core of our values, is our unwavering support for local farmers and produce. We provide a “50 mile menu”, which exclusively features dishes crafted with ingredients sourced within a 50 mile radius of us. We’re delighted to have access to a wide array of local ingredients right on our doorstep, from dairy, fish, vegetables, and even exceptional chocolate from Island Chocolate just a stone throws away from our HQ in Battersea.
We take pride in backing our local businesses and minimising the distance that food has to travel to reach our plates. It feels good developing closer relationships with our food suppliers, it means we find out more about the food itself and that really helps fuel the passion behind our dishes.
What is a trend you’re seeing take off in the events industry?
Non-alcoholic drinks are in high-demand believe it or not! Many people are seeking to consume less alcohol and with the increasing availability of non-alcoholic options, catering to this preference has become effortless. We can now offer a variety of delicious mocktails, nosecco, botanical mixers, as well as alcohol-free beers and ciders. We have noticed a growing health-consciousness amongst people over the years, and there appears to be less emphasis on alcohol consumption at events.
