Simon Eaton, Head of Live at Troxy talks about what it means to the venue to be part of Independent Venue week 2023
Independent Venue Week (IVW) returns on Monday 31st January – Sunday 6th February 2023, and to honour such a special week, Editors will be performing live on Troxy’s stage on the 1st February.
IVW is the UK’s annual 7-day celebration of independent music and arts venues and the people that own, run and work in them. Over 200 venues take part every year, creating special live events to bring local communities together to celebrate the independents within the industry.
This year, Troxy has not only been listed amongst some great household names in the industry but has been recognised as the largest venue taking part in this year’s celebration.
Simon Eaton, Head of Live at Troxy explains:
“We have been a IVW member for over five years and we’ve seen first-hand how uplifting and advantageous it is to stand together with other independent venues. It’s a real pleasure to welcome Editors onto Troxy’s stage as we’ve a shared ethos and passion – which is to bring the music to the fans in an authentic way. IVW is about artists and venues collaborating together to create something unique for fans, along with showcasing the best emerging new talent alongside established acts.
“With IVW it’s all about working together and being part of a bigger picture. Troxy is a solo, independent business however the independent network stands stronger together as a larger family. Artists at every point of their career need venues of different capacities to play, while Troxy sits at the larger end of that spectrum, we fully understand and appreciate the work done at all points within the artist journey to reach our capacity. Any help or advice we can give other independent venues only benefits us in the long term.
“We love the vibrant, eclectic mix of independent venues that form our IVW family and these live spaces are crucial to the fabric of the UK’s diverse communities. The week reminds us all that we don’t stand alone.
