We’re not shy about our love for live music at Troxy…so you can imagine how happy we were when the musical legends at BBC Radio 2 brought a massive cast to Troxy for their ‘Friday night is Music Night’ two hour live broadcast to mark BBC Music Day in September 2018.
The 60 piece BBC Concert Orchestra performed an evening of pop and musical theatre classics joined on stage by a selection star guest vocalists and London’s Some Voices choir.
Behind the scenes our amazing production magazine Steve Singh brought the live elements together to create a seamless show. As the concert was broadcast live on the radio, there was obviously a heavy emphasis on sound.
We used our in-house JBL system, which we reconfigured by splitting the main array for the event, going from 12 flown cabs per side to four per side. The rest were placed on a ground support system on the upper ground floor as you enter the main hall, with three subs high on each side and four of the main array on each side of the room. This gave optimum coverage into all areas of the venue.
To physically accommodate all the performers was no mean feat – we built a tiered stage going back to our high rear stage performance area and the BBC Concert Orchestra set up in front of the stage, taking up most of the main floor.
We used our in-house lighting rig, with just a few additional fixtures sourced from White Light and the BBC brought in all of their own outside broadcast sound equipment.
The broadcasters said that the fantastic setting and the ambiance Troxy offered made the evening!
