Nestled in the heart of East London, Troxy stands as an iconic venue that has witnessed nine glorious decades of entertainment and culture. As it reaches the remarkable milestone of 90 years, we take a nostalgic journey through its history and celebrate the legacy that continues to captivate audiences today…

Wayback When….

Troxy’s story begins in 1933 when it first opened its doors as a grand cinema, designed by the renowned architect George Coles. In its early years, it served as a cornerstone of cinematic innovation, featuring state-of-the-art technology and opulent Art Deco design. The cinema quickly became a beloved local landmark, offering a respite from the challenges of the times.

Safe in Community

Troxy’s resilience shone during World War II when it served as an important gathering place for the community during air raids. It provided a sense of comfort and unity in the face of adversity. Post-war, the venue underwent a transformation, adapting to the changing entertainment landscape by becoming a bingo hall. Bingo!

Musical Evolution

In the 21st century, Troxy found a new calling as a live music venue, reclaiming its status as a cultural hub. It has since welcomed legendary artists and bands from various genres, including rock, pop, indie, and electronic music. The likes of Patti Smith, Jarvis Cocker, the Specials and Morrissey have graced its famed stage, leaving an indelible mark on the venue’s history.
