We’ve got news. Big news. If you’ve visited Troxy recently, you might have noticed we’ve closed off small areas of the venue. That’s because we’re partway through a major restoration project that’s going to make your nights out smoother, and give us the facilities we’ve needed for a very long time.
As you can imagine, working with a listed building like Troxy means that any changes we need to make must be in-keeping with the existing building, carefully planned and approved. Large parts of our huge basement have been out of use since we took over the building, and we’ve been working towards bringing the enormous space back into use.
Funded by your continued support through our restoration levy, where £2.25 is added for every ticket you buy, as well as investment by the building’s fantastic owners and our new operators Broadwick Group, we’re finally able to bring it back to life.
Originally guests would have queued in our basement, and you’ll see the corridors where 1930’s audiences would have waited to enter the splendour of the largest cinema in the UK.
So without further ado, here’s what to expect;
Larger Cloakroom

We’ve completed a brand new permanent cloakroom in the basement. That means more space to move around, shorter queues on arrival, and plenty of storage for coats and bags as we come into the winter months.
Additional Toilets
This is the big one. Our current loo count? Not up to scratch, and believe us, we’ve read the reviews. The new basement toilet block (now underway) will more than double our toilet provision. Yes, double. Less queuing, more dancing. We’re as happy about this as we know you will be. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for still supporting Troxy while we’ve been working towards improving these facilities.
Upgraded Fire Exits
We’re reconfiguring our fire exits and circulation routes, and taking advantage of pandemic closure improvements we made to the main stage, to unlock standing room in the main hall. This means we’ll be increasing our total capacity from 3,100 to 3,600.
Original Organ Lift
Now this one is close to our hearts. We’re reinstating the original 1930s organ lift, which means our beloved Wurlitzer can once again rise from below stage for special performances. A nod to our cinema roots, and a very dramatic one, at that.
Troxy has been an East End institution since 1933. We’ve gone from the silver screen to sold-out gigs, from bingo nights to global conferences. We want to honour that heritage, while making sure our guests, promoters, artists and event planners get the 21st-century experience they deserve.
The major works will wrap up by January 2026, which is when our new licence kicks in. But if you’re booking ahead, the benefits start now. Our cloakroom is already open, and you’ll see more changes come to life over the next few months.
